Track Biography:

The Mid-Antrim Hunt was formally set up in the 1870’s as a harrier pack, although it was in existence for at least a hundred years before that. It was believed to have had its first official meeting in The Thatch Pub in Broughshane in 1875.

The Mid Antrim point-to-point Course is just outside Moneyglass very close to Toomebridge. Toome or Toomebridge (from Irish: Tuaim, meaning "tumulus"), is a small village and townland on the northwest corner of Lough Neagh in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Moneyglass was at one time home to Malachy McCourt and his family who was the father of Frank McCourt, author of Angela's Ashes, a winner of The Pulitzer Prize, the NBCC Award, The LA Times Award and the Royal Society of Literature Award.

Champion National Hunt jockey and 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner, Tony McCoy, who received an OBE in 2010, was born in Moneyglass.

Another sports star reared in Moneyglass was world famous Rugby Union player Willie John McBride who capped for Ireland on 63 occasions which includes 12 times as Captain.

The reigning champion handler, Colin Bowe, will look to kickstart his campaign on a winning note courtesy of PUSH PUSH. She was only denied by a neck on her debut at Ballyknock, and whilst a beaten favourite when turning out at Stowlin, that experience will stand to her at this course. Her stablemate Eagle River also has the benefit of two previous runs, whilst there are a number of newcomers from leading yards that would have to be respected.

Ger Quinn successfully introduced a French-bred in this race last year, and he could bid to repeat the feat 12 months on with Lord Des Fresnes and Werweiss. The pair are among a number of interesting newcomers that could also include Dancing Fruits for the Kilkenny handler Ellmarie Holden. He is an own-brother to Handstands, the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novice Chase winner from earlier in the year.

WEST OF IDAHO was a beaten short-priced favourite at Necarne towards the end of last season, having changed stables since his promising debut at Kildorrery, and he could make the breakthrough here following two consecutive runners-up efforts. Beans On Toast would have finished placed on that same card in Necarne but for coming down at the final fence, and he is sure to be a close challenger of the selection, alongside Clough Clouds if he can bounce back to his Farmacaffley effort from February.

SAMPOET has switched stables since he finished second in a Hunter Chase at Down Royal in May. That was a second consecutive placed effort on the track for the eight-year-old, who looked a rejuvenated force in the second half of the spring term. If that form can be maintained, he could gain a first victory in nearly two years. Weespoof was placed three times last season, whilst his former stablemate Bayonetta ran encouragingly on the track during the summer.

The progressive ERSUDALY had two subsequent winners behind her when finishing third in a competitive maiden in Ballycahane in March, which is working out well. That was a big step forward from her debut, and if she can continue in that vein, she could be difficult to oppose in this. Picture Of You has struggled since leaving Henry de Bromhead, but she could bounce back on her first outing for Sam Curling; however, it is likely to be another stable debutante, Walk In The Clouds, that is the biggest threat, having joined Cian Collins after ending last season on a promising note.

BEAU WALKING was placed five times on the track for Jessica Harrington, and whilst his form of late had tailed off, he was considered good enough to contest the Grand National Trial at Punchestown in February, and he could definitely bounce back to form in this. Stablemate Beg To Differ was placed for Enda Bolger last season, and is another horse that could potentially have their first outing for the Curling team on this card. Maison De Balzac was placed in each of his last four starts, and that consistency will see him rewarded, whilst Dunaird is a newcomer to be feared.
