Track Biography:

East Down Foxhounds Point-to-Point course at Tyrella is situated at the foot of the picturesque Mourne Mountains made famous by the Percy French song.

With the 2018 Spring season, East Down will have been racing at Tyrella for fifty four years. Two meetings are held each Spring, in January and March.

Normally the first meeting of the Spring calendar in the Northern Region, Tyrella is a right handed undulating track where, given it’s close proximity to the sea and sandy soil is well drained and more often than not, produces good going.

This video from @NotFromHereStories gives you a snapshot of the picture-postcard setting that Tyrella point-to-point takes place in.

The locally-trained CAMLIN PARK was placed at Loughanmore on his debut last year, and whilst she has not been able to match that in her two starts this season, this is likely the best opportunity that she has had to date. The others with previous form will need to find improvement to figure, which may bring the newcomer Lady Doyanne into the equation, and she was a E52,000 store purchase.

Caroline McCaldin won this race 12 months ago, one of four races that she claimed at this venue last year, and her DOCTORS HILL could continue the yards good record at this venue. The expensive E240,000 Derby Sale purchase was only beaten by just over five lengths at Dromahane last month, and this easier track should leave him as the one to beat. Hist stablemate Chichester Park brings previous placed form, whilst Donnchadh Doyle was in hat-trick winning form at Ballycrystal last Sunday, and his Port Laureate is not without his chance.

JIM THE WOLF was only just over a length behind last weekend?s Thurles Hunter Chase winner Willitgoahead on his latest outing in Tattersalls last month, and given that timely form boost, he could gain his third success of the season in this. Bold Fury was unlucky not to win his maiden at this venue last season, and he made a very encouraging return to action at Down Royal over Christmas when finishing a very respectable sixth against leading hunter chasers. That leaves him as the obvious danger, alongside Last Round who won very easily at Tinahely recently.

The former four-time track winner CARNFUNNOCK got within a length of the reigning champion point-to-pointer Winged Leader on his first outing in this sphere at Portrush, and he could be the one to side with in this. Vina Ardanza ran well at Down Royal over Christmas, and this test should play to his strengths, whilst Milan Forth has been a revelation this season. He added a hunter chase victory to his CV at Clonmel last week and he has to be respected.

WHAT A FLIRTH went close off a mark of 82 at Ayr in October on her final start for Dan Skelton and she could make an immediate impact on her first start for the Peter Flood Stable. Justlikejessejames has also changed stables since a career-best at Tattersalls last month, and now represents the same owner-handler combination that was just touched off by a head in this race last year. Meanwhile, De Cuckoo was still involved when tipping up three-out in Ballycrystal three-out on her first start over obstacles.

HURLERS HILL has not been seen since chasing home the recent Grade 2 Towton Novice Chase winner Handstands at Moira as a five-year-old. He does have a lengthy absence to overcome on his stable debut, but if he can recapture that form he could be hard to beat. Squire Ohara got into the placings last time, whilst Occupational Force is a notable newcomer, being a E180,000 brother of Barry The Butcher.
