Track Biography:

Kinsale Point to Point along with running a two-day premier race meeting at the end of the point-to-point season also hold an Autumn fixture.

It's a great family day out, the racetrack has superb viewing with food, drink and entertainment.

The first official record of a South Union Foxhounds point-to-point race dates from 1945, when it was held at Warner’s Cross. In 1947, the races moved to Ballinrea near Carrigaline.

In more recent years, the races were held at Cappagh, very close to Kinsale, with winter fixtures at Rochestown.

The races moved to Fort Arthur on the Old Head of Kinsale briefly before alighting on the current site at Farrangalway in 2007.

Kinsale is the gourmet centre of Ireland ! Don’t forget to plan for some seriously good food in one of Kinsale’s award-winning restaurants such as Fishy Fishy, Bastion, The Blue Hazen and Finns Table, to name a few.

There is plenty else to do with activities in Kinsale range from sightseeing and walking to adventure sports, arts and culture. Check out Kinsale.ie for full details of attractions like Charles Fort.

There’s something for everyone – did you know Kinsale people are environmental pioneers, leading the way as a “Transition Town”? Or that Kinsale marks the start of the famous Wild Atlantic Way?

The Kinsale meeting held in the Spring marks the end of the Point-to-Point season, where jockey and trainer championships are decided, and there is great rivalry with horses competing from as far afield as Northern Ireland. Sunday also features family entertainment, with a hound parade, dog show, pony rides and best-dressed competitions, topped off with a concert.

SOVEREIGN STAR finished third to the recent Galway bumper winner Affordable Fury at Ballycahane on his debut, and whilst he was unable to follow up that initial effort in Quakerstown, he would hold big claims on his initial effort. Painted Wolf has posted two very solid efforts and has the benefit of a recent run from Castletown-Geoghegan, whilst Isocrate finished fourth to the big-price seller Croke Park and can bounce back from his Stowlin effort.

There may not be much separating quite a few of these with Jessmae, John The Diva and Shantou Moon all horses who can get involved on the pick of their form to date.

LORD SCHNITZEL enjoyed a very productive campaign last season rising from winning a maiden to success in an open and hunter chase. Although he was beaten by the potentially re-opposing Na Trachtalai Abu at Tallow, he represents a red-hot stable following a Ballycrystal treble last Sunday and can overturn that form. Whatswrongwithyou has seen very little competitive action of late but is talented on his day and is back with Paurick OConnor, whilst La Feline, Er Dancer and Snugsborough Hall are others to note.

Moira maiden winner GUILLAUME could have found a good opportunity to double up after opening his account in good style three weeks ago and is improving. Headscratcher and Desert Heather are other maiden winners from recent weeks with claims, whilst Lights Are Green may have been something of a surprise winner at Castletown-Geoghegan, however the horse he beat has since won to advertise his chances.

PRAYTELL has not been seen in competitive action for 364 days, however his debut in this sphere at Rathcannon last year was full of promise. He was only beaten by the still unbeaten and now three-time track winner Maximillian so he could make a winning return here. Three Nations has joined a stable that won two races last Sunday with similar new additions to their yard, and if a similar level of improvements can be found he would have to be considered a big danger, whilst Grain De Folie cannot be discounted on his first outing for a new stable.
