Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

It is hard to look beyond JALKADAM in this as this full-brother to the top class chaser Djakadam was running a big race on his debut at Loughanmore before crashing out at the final fence. The eventual winner of that race was subsequently sold for E270,000 and he will be expected to back up that form in this. Git Maker could be set for a quick re-appearance having finished second at Loughbrickland and he has already proven himself in deep conditions with his two outings come in testing ground, whilst Gerico Ville is a horse that could improve from his fifth at Knockmullen House on debut.

KATES HILL lost little in defeat on her stable debut at Curraghmore last month, particularly as her conqueror at the Co. Waterford venue has since followed up the victory by winning again at Turtulla last Sunday. The close relation of Tammys Hill would look to be in pole position to open her account here. Rachels Surprise has been knocking on the door for some time now and comes into this following three consecutive placed efforts where she was not beaten far, whilst Darcys Hill and Chance Of Success are other with definite place claims once again.

RUSSELLS QUARTER was the subject of market support when sent off as the favourite on his debut at Oldtown last season and he showed why there was confidence behind him when returning with a very promising effort in defeat at Loughanmore last month. He had the measure of the potentially re-opposing Carrig Rock on that occasion, although there was only half a length separating them at the line. It was however the selections first run of the season, whereas the latter had the benefit of a run at Moira which may result in the placings being confirmed again here. The Toomebridge third Faith Loving looks next best.

LOWTOWN BOY could be set for a quick re-appearance as he ran a big race just last Saturday at Loughbrickland when chasing home the talented Ask DMan. This would look to be a much easier task and he would be a deserving winner following that big effort last weekend. The form of the Loughanmore maiden that One For The Yard won last month received a boost last weekend and he could be the main danger if putting in a clean round after coming a cropper at Knockmullen House, whilst the mare Ringneill should improve for her return run last week.

LITE DUTIES was set a stiff test on his seasonal re-appearance when contesting the Hunter Chase at Fairyhouse last month that featured the first two horses home in last seasons Cheltenham Foxhunters. Far from disgraced, the 11-year-old finished in fifth and goes in search of his fourth open victory here. Stable companions Marinero and On The Sod look the main dangers, with the latter particularly interesting as he puts his unbeaten record on the line in his first outing in open company following a faultless record in his rise through the ranks to this point.

OUTSIDE THE RING ran a big race at Portrush last month as he chased home the impressive Ask DMan. His conqueror has since advertised the form particularly highly by winning easily at Loughbrickland last month, and that would give the connections of Outside The Ring particular confidence for this. Loughhill would be the obvious alternative but he has three lengths to find with the selection on their meeting at Portrush.
